Rebuilding Faith: Strengthening the Church in Rural India

ANDHRA PRADESH, India — June 2025 — In a rural community in southern India, a small congregation experiences hardship and hope as efforts continue to restore their place of worship. The church recently suffered significant damage following a severe storm, leaving the structure unsafe and in urgent need of repair.

The congregation is connected with a local school of preaching in the region, where evangelists are trained and equipped to serve surrounding communities. Through this connection, news of the congregation’s need was shared more broadly, prompting a response from brethren abroad.

In response to this request for assistance, the Nashville Church of Christ prayerfully considered the opportunity and committed financial support toward the rebuilding effort. This act of partnership has made it possible not only to repair the damaged structure but also to strengthen it into a more permanent and stable place for worship.

Local workers met with church leaders and consulted a builder to assess the damage. It was determined that the available support would be sufficient to cover the necessary repairs and improvements.

Despite the challenges, the spirit of the congregation remains strong. During a recent visit, members gathered to sing and encourage one another, expressing gratitude and renewed hope.

As the local preacher shared,

“We are deeply grateful for the love and support shown to us. Through the work connected with the School of Preaching, we continue to serve and strengthen the church here in Vemuladevi. The funds have arrived, and we are working together to repair the damage and make this a more permanent place of worship. The brethren are encouraged, and they asked me to convey their heartfelt thanks.”

Providing an update on the progress, Spencer L. Davidson noted,

“I am writing with a happy update regarding this support. Brother _____ has received the funds, and the work is progressing well. I am so proud of our work together—let’s continue to keep this effort in prayer.”

As repairs move forward, this effort reflects the ongoing commitment to strengthening local congregations through training, partnership, and shared faith. Even in the face of adversity, the church in Vemuladevi continues to grow in unity and purpose, trusting that God will bless the work being done.
